One extended voyage around Australia is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a isolated tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was missing.

A large-scale hunt located her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and staff on the vessel were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" prohibiting any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to participate in the expedition - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little details we have been told, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and common sense," she stated.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have done that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, mother died, alone."

Organization Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to company data. It was specifically designed to enter distant locations of Australia's coastline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to transport travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are uncommon, and cruise ships have systems to track which travelers are embarking or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard just isn't an choice," an authority remarked.
