The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
