Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
